HATTERAS NETWORKS - Ethernet
First / Final Mile (EFM) Service Delivery Solutions
Hatteras Networks came into existence to develop equipment to
enable carriers and service providers to deliver high-bandwidth reliable
business services to business locations that are not served by fiber. This
large opportunity is fueled by the very large bandwidth and services gap that
currently exists between a traditional T1/E1 service and next-generation
fiber-based services.
Hatteras Networks is redefining the
way carriers think about Ethernet services. Hatteras Networks’ Ethernet service
delivery solutions are leading service providers worldwide to a significant
expansion of the Metro Ethernet market, which had previously been limited by
legacy technologies in the access network. Now service providers are empowered
to cost-effectively offer 100 Mbps Ethernet services over existing facilities,
enabling businesses to migrate from legacy networks to transparent Ethernet
services for voice and data business connectivity, infrastructure backhaul and
mobile wireless backhaul solutions.
3 primary solutions:

Ethernet-over-Copper (e.shdsl)
- provides Ethernet on bonded dry copper. Bond up to 40 pairs, symmetric
speeds of up to 15M on each pair up to 600Mbps combined.

Ethernet-over-TDM –
Ethernet over bonded T1’s and E1’s as well as DS3.

Psuedowire+ or PWE3-Plus
(circuit emulation) - technology that allows sending native Ethernet
and native TDM across the same bonded pipe, TDM retains all the
characteristics of a T1 (delay, jitter, timing), and is especially
critical for Mobile Backhaul requirements.
4 primary
applications:

Business Services –
e.g. last mile connection to offices typically providing 10M+ Ethernet
services where there is not fiber. Ethernet over Fiber is a future
application for Hatteras.

Mobile Backhaul
– i.e., last mile connection to cell towers, typically providing up to
100 Mbps services carrying both Ethernet AND TDM.

DSLAM backhaul – where
there is no fiber access carriers can use their current copper
infrastructure to increase existing bandwidth between POPs by up to 10
times that of the current speeds available.

In-building –
i.e., where you have fiber to the building, but copper up the risers,
use us to obtain high bandwidths to offices or residences.
